Philip Songhurst is a Director in Control Risks and responsible for leading risk, resilience and security consulting across Europe, Middle East, and Africa. In this role he advises multinationals and government organisations on strategic risk, governance, resilience, and transformational change. A continued area of focus for Philip is the organisational risk and opportunities brought about by digitization, data analytics and technological change.

Recent tasks that Philip has worked on include:

  • Operating model design: Review and design of a future state resilience operating model for a global manufacturing business with operations in the US, Europe, and Asia.
  • Security threat, risk, and maturity assessment: Led a global program of security threat and vulnerability reviews across 12 different countries for an international bank to test security controls, identify gaps and present recommendations to their senior executive board.
  • Technology threat and vulnerability risk assessment: Led a technology risk assessment for a global food and drink manufacturing business to review and identify the potential risks of integrating technology controls into their existing physical and cyber assets at their sites and distribution centres.
  • Cyber crisis response: Led a cyber crisis response team to analyse, assess and mitigate an online cyber threat for a leading global brand.

  • Before joining Control Risks, Philip led the Strategic Risk Consulting practice at Aon, where he advised global multinationals on enterprise risk, resilience, cyber risk, and risk financing. He was also previously a Senior Manager in EY’s performance improvement business where he led complex strategic transformation projects in the energy, utility, infrastructure, and construction sectors.

    Philip has held other senior roles in other high-performance environments previously at Worley, a global engineering, procurement and construction management company. He started his career as an Officer in the British Army and Air Corps helicopter pilot.

    Educated with an Executive MBA from the Haskayne School of Business and a BSc from the University of St. Andrews, he is a professionally trained risk facilitator, project (PMI) and programme manager (MSP). He also recently completed the Oxford Said Business School Artificial Intelligence Program.
