Kate Yamashita serves as the Principal for Control Risks’ Cyber Consulting practice for the Americas region. Kate currently has more than 15 years of experience in various security-related fields ranging from political risk and intelligence to information security, including specializations in cyber intelligence and information security strategic development.

Kate Yamashita serves as the Principal for Control Risks’ Cyber Consulting practice for the Americas region. Kate currently has more than 15 years of experience in various security-related fields ranging from political risk and intelligence to information security, including specializations in cyber intelligence and information security strategic development.

For Control Risks, Kate focuses on developing custom cyber solutions for clients that leverage all areas of Control Risks to include crisis and integrity management. She works with client leadership to understand the impact and risk of information security threats specific to their environment in order to develop mitigation strategies, policies, processes and organizational standards that align with their unique requirements.

Additionally, Kate works with customers to provide training opportunities, such as tabletop exercises and tailored workshops to help develop customer incident response, crisis management and threat intelligence capabilities. Kate also works with Control Risks’ Cyber Threat Intelligence team to deliver threat assessments that provide both actionable intelligence and an asset-based risk evaluation in relation to the threats facing the organization.
 

Kate’s recent experience includes:
  • Serving as a strategic advisor to clients that aim to improve their security posture by developing and implementing full-scale information security programs.
  • Delivering tailored intelligence investigations for customers to track threats and adversaries that are targeting, or may target, the company in the future. These investigations allow organizations the opportunity to proactively respond to these threats.
  • Conducting robust maturity assessments for several customers in a variety of industries that effectively impacted the companies’ strategic approach to information security.  
  • Integrating traditional intelligence methodologies with network and host-based analysis to improve customer’s detection and response capabilities through various advisory services and interactive workshops.
  • Provided attribution for a large scale fraud case for a financial institution that allowed the customer to recoup all stolen funds.   
  • Leading large scale incident response engagements for customers with complex global footprint.


Kate has broad experience in information security before joining Control Risks, previously working for a large defense contractor and an information security start up that is considered an industry leader.
