David is based in Kenya and leads our Business Intelligence, Political and Country Risk practice in Eastern Africa. An economist by training, David brings a wealth of experience from across the region in government affairs, public policy, and compliance to help clients enter new markets and grow their businesses in a secure and resilient manner.  

Recent tasks that David has worked on include:

  • Led political and regulatory risk analysis in an Enterprise Risk Assessment for a global financial services client examining political and regulatory factors impacting the client's operations, investments, and strategic decisions
  • Led a political and security risk assessment for an infrastructure firm evaluating infrastructure projects in Kenya
  • Led an integrity due diligence investigation into a high-profile CEO of a leading regional technology company, to examine the CEO’s relationship/proximity to current and previous government administration, track record, and market reputation, with a view to identifying any reputational and/or regulatory risks  
  • Prior to joining Control Risks, David spent 16 years working with governments, the private sector, global social impact organisations, and public policy think-tanks. His work during this time included strategic advisory, policy and regulatory risk analysis and stakeholder engagement. 

    David holds a Bachelor's degree in Economics from Egerton University, Kenya; a Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Economics from Erasmus University Rotterdam, The Netherlands; a Postgraduate Certificate in Applied Statistics from Makerere University, Uganda; and is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Economics and Finance at SOAS, University of London. He is fluent in English and Kiswahili.
