Bota leads Control Risks’ analytical coverage of Ukraine and Russia and contributes to coverage of the broader post-Soviet region. She specialises in geopolitical and political risk advisory, regulatory and policy analysis, and market entry strategy. She helps clients navigate key risks and opportunities in the region by providing tailored reports, scenarios, and briefings in response to specific queries and by producing analysis for our online subscription services.

Before joining Control Risks, Bota helped build negotiation workshops focused on geopolitical crisis scenarios at Negotiation Design & Strategy in Boston. Prior to that, she worked on human rights and civil society projects for non-profits in Central Asia and contributed to a published report while interning at the Peace Research Institute in Frankfurt, Germany.
Bota has an MA in Russian and Eastern European studies from Harvard University with a focus on comparative politics and economics of the region.
She speaks English, Russian, and Kazakh.
