Timothy manages Control Risks’ West Africa business, with operations in nine countries and over 160 personnel deployed across the region. He is based in Lagos, Nigeria, and specialises in the delivery of crisis management and incident response support to clients across all sectors. 

Timothy has previously held a number of managerial roles in Control Risks, including as Director for the West Africa consulting and operations business and as Operations Manager within the security business. Before moving to Nigeria in 2013, Timothy was a Senior Analyst in London with Control Risks’ Response department, which specialises in responding to kidnaps-for-ransom, piracy and other incidents of extortive crime. Prior to joining Control Risks in 2010, Timothy was a Research Fellow at International Policy Network providing subject matter expertise and media commentary on economic development and trade issues.

Recent tasks that Timothy has worked on include:

  • Managing a range of multi-jurisdictional consulting engagements across the region for sectors including power, oil and gas, professional services, manufacturing and mining. Key project locations include Cameroon, Chad, Cote D’Ivoire, Ghana, Mali, Mauritania, Nigeria, and Senegal;
  • Being the lead crisis management advisor to an oil and gas client undergoing a major internal restructuring programme;
  • Delivering crisis management and security awareness training to multiple clients with operations in high-risk locations across the region; 
  • Leading a multi-site review of physical and procedural security measures for a Chinese telecoms business;
  • Advising a renewable energy business on market entry and operational risk management in northern Nigeria.

  • Timothy holds degrees from the University of Nottingham (B.A. European Politics) and the School of Oriental and African Studies, London, (MSc African Politics). He speaks regularly at industry events, conferences and association gatherings.
