Khalid Shah is an Analyst in Control Risks’ Global Risk Analysis team. He helps our clients understand and manage political, security, operational, and regulatory risks in India and South Asia.  

Recent tasks that Khalid has worked on include:

  • Political and security risk assessment for an international not-for-profit organisation with operations in Sri Lanka  
  • Market entry assessment for a global oil and gas company looking to invest in India  
  • Regulatory assessment focusing on Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) regulations for an Australian company planning to set up data centres in India 
  • Market entry assessment for an investing firm seeking to invest in Bangladesh’s telecom sector 
  • Security assessments covering different cities in South Asia for a US-based technology company 

  • Before joining Control Risks, Khalid was associated with India’s top-rated foreign policy think tank, Observer Research Foundation (ORF). While at ORF, Khalid worked on internal security, terrorism, and insurgency, with a special focus on the Kashmir Conflict.

    Khalid has also worked as a broadcast journalist, covering crime, security, and politics. His time in broadcast journalism included serving as Srinagar Bureau Head for World Is One News (WION) and his analysis on India’s internal security and politics has appeared in The Washington Post, The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), VICE News, The Wall Street Journal, The Guardian, Der Spiegel, Deutsche Welle, among other national and international platforms.  

    Khalid speaks Hindi, Kashmiri, Urdu and English.
