Michael provides political, operational and security risk analysis in Southern Africa. He contributes daily updates to Control Risks’ subscription services and provides bespoke political risk consulting and threat assessments to clients across sectors. He co-leads on South Africa analysis and leads on Zambia analysis.
Michael works closely with Control Risks’ security consultants in Southern Africa to deliver market entry assessments, threat assessments and analysis of political developments, as well as security, corruption and market-exit risks.

Before joining Control Risks, Michael worked for the Albright Stonebridge Group (ASG) in Washington DC in their Africa Practice, where he provided bespoke consulting deliverables to clients in markets across Sub-Saharan Africa. This consulting included work on mining, technology, transport, health, infrastructure, finance, energy, and oil and gas.
Michael received a Fulbright scholarship and holds an MA in Democracy and Governance from Georgetown University where his research focused on the political and governance dynamics of Southern Africa. Michael also holds an LLM, LLB, Honours Degree in Political Science and BA Law from the University of Pretoria.
