Irene Dorner is a Non-Executive Director of Control Risks. She served as Chair from April 2017 until April 2024 after first being appointed a Non-Executive Director in October 2016. Before Control Risks, Irene was CEO and President of HSBC USA. She retired from this role in 2014 and was recognised with American Banker’s Lifetime Achievement Award

Irene is also a Non-Executive Director of Taylor Wimpey and served as Chair from 2020 to 2023.  She is a member of the Council of Chatham House; a Trustee of the South East Asia Rainforest Research Partnership; an Honorary Fellow of St Anne’s College, Oxford, and Chair of the Trustees for the Hampstead Theatre. 

After graduating from St. Anne’s College, Oxford in 1976 with a BA in Jurisprudence, Irene joined the banking industry in 1979 after practising as a Barrister at Law in London. In 1992, she moved from her role as Head of Legal in the investment banking arm of HSBC into a variety of business and support roles within HSBC in the Commercial, Retail and Investment businesses. She was appointed Deputy Chairman and CEO of HSBC Bank Malaysia in 2007 then CEO and President of HSBC USA in 2010. American Banker named Irene the 2012 Most Powerful Woman in Banking.
