Matt Newman is a consultant with a background in the provision of close protection and crisis security consulting. Matt leads in the development and delivery of Control Risks’ security training courses from our UK Training Centre and other international delivery locations. Prior to this Matt spent several years as an embedded crisis security consultant to a Multi-National Corporation operating out of Libya and Iraq.

Some of Matt's recent projects include:

  • Design and development of the Control Risks’ Level 5 Risks and Resilience Managers Course (RRMC). This includes development of training material, and completion of the accreditation process to BTEC level 5.
  • Design and development of the Hostile Environment Awareness Training (HEAT) course, and Personal Security Awareness Training (PSAT) courses. Along with delivering these courses to various organisations, in the UK and abroad. This includes creating bespoke content to suit organisational needs and the availability of resources.
  • Development and delivery of Conflict Management (CM) training to a prominent organisation, within the UK and abroad.
  • Co-ordinating and providing close protection for various high-net-worth individuals and government officials. In high-risk environments such as Somalia, Libya, and Iraq.
  • Planning and executing the evacuation of all international assignees, working for a Multi-National Corporation, from a high-risk environment during a time of significant instability.
  • Supporting and advising a Multi-National Corporation with risk identification and mitigation, incident response, and crisis management strategies for staff deployed in high-risk locations.

  • Prior to joining Control Risks, Matt served with the British Army as a Junior Non-Commissioned Officer serving in various regions globally. During this time, he was involved with the planning and execution of operations in high-risk and remote environments with limited support. This would include collecting and collating security and risk information and presenting it various stakeholders, along with co-ordinating and executing offensive action. On leaving the army Matt spent two years managing the security at several project locations in complex and high-risk environments including the management of multiple security teams.

    Matt holds an MSc in Organisational Resilience, a post graduate certificate in Security management, a Level 6 diploma in Security management, a BTEC certificate in Close Protection and Protective Security, a Ship Security Officer certificate, and Level 3 certificates First Person on Scene and Supervising First aid for mental health. Matt also has a Level 3 Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Sector (PTLLS) certificate.
