Karla Schiaffino is a Senior Analyst for the Americas region in Control Risks’ Global Risk Analysis practice, based in Mexico City. Karla is responsible for providing political and organized crime-related analysis for Mexico. In addition, Karla conducts continuous monitoring of political and regulatory developments and operations concerns facing business activities across the country. Karla also prepares ongoing updates about business-relevant issues in Mexico for Control Risks’ security and geopolitical risk monitoring platform CORE.

Recent tasks that Karla has worked on include:

  • Delivering an update about the dynamic security environment in Mexico and its impacts on the country’s energy sector for a renewable energy company.
  • Providing a tailored country risk assessment on Mexico for an institutional investor looking into the ICT sector in the country.
  • Preparing an evaluation of Mexico’s emergency services in the country’s 32 states for a company in the ICT sector
  • Before joining Control Risks, Karla worked as a senior analyst for the Americas at Verisk Maplecroft, where she prepared in-depth analyses of regulatory, political, security and economic developments in Mexico, Colombia and Trinidad and Tobago to inform the investment decisions of companies and investors interested in these jurisdictions.

    Karla holds a master’s degree in law and diplomacy from the Fletcher School at Tufts University and a dual bachelor’s degree in political science and international relations from the Autonomous Institute of Technology of Mexico. Karla is fluent in Spanish, English and German.
