Edward is a Partner and the head of our Intelligence and Investigations practice for the South Asia, South-East Asia and Australia Pacific regions. Based in Singapore, he works with multinational corporates, investment funds and law firms.
Clients approach Edward when they need intelligence to inform investment decisions, or help resolving sensitive disputes. They are looking for a balanced, expertly sourced and objective opinion on high-risk, commercially sensitive and opaque issues. Edward’s APAC practice is ranked by Chambers and Partners as Band 1 for “Investigations and Disputes” and “Investigative Due Diligence”.
Edward helps his clients plan for market entry and expansion, including through detailed and holistic partner identification and assessment, competitor intelligence and comparative analysis.
Recent engagements include:
- Advising a major energy company on which companies to partner with to enter the Vietnam renewable energy sector, amid profound challenges including political instability, corruption crackdowns and regulatory uncertainty
- Guiding international law firms and their corporate clients on challenging dispute-related issues, including those involving high levels of political sensitivity
- Assisting law firms during investigations into corruption, sanctions exposure, (such as in Cambodia and Myanmar), internal employee malfeasance and fraud-related scenarios
Edward has specialised in South-East Asia investigations for 12 years and is a regular speaker at conferences including Singapore Venture Capital Association, the Hong Kong Venture Capital Association and the Asia-Pacific (APAC) Legal Congress. He also co-hosts events with law firms and at his clients’ internal risk events.
Before joining Control Risks, Edward worked as a journalist, editor and corporate communications professional in Indonesia, establishing a corporate communications company that served major local and international companies.
He holds an MBA from Bayes Business School in London, and a BA in English Literature from Durham University in the UK. He also has an Indonesian language advanced proficiency certificate from Satya Wacana Christian University in Central Java, Indonesia.
