"To me, success is when we have empowered our clients to achieve security and resiliency. It’s not about slide shows – it’s about our clients trusting us to help them with some of the most difficult, challenging, sensitive issues that they’re having to face. That’s a lot of responsibility, but it’s also a great privilege.”

Emma Sanderson at Control Risks

I joined Control Risks’ London-based Cyber Incident Response team in January 2020, after a stint as a Security Operation Centre Analyst left me ready for a more varied, client facing role. Our main goal was to support our clients who had fallen victim to attacks. As their go-to expert advisor, we guided them in understanding and strategising their organisation’s response to these highly impactful incidents.

In mid-2021, I followed my partner to her home country, Australia. Control Risks went above and beyond to accommodate this change and brought me into the wider Asia Pacific Cyber Risk Advisory Team.

Nowadays, I’m never working on the same project twice. One day, we’re providing Cyber Incident Response advisory to large organisations in London. The next, we’re working on developing a regulatory compliance roadmap for a global real estate firm in China. As if that’s not exciting enough, we often find ourselves travelling to incredible places like idyllic Philippine islands to assess information security practices for our mutual clients.

In the last six months, my work has taken me to fascinating destinations like Philippines, India and Vietnam. And the adventure doesn't stop there, with New Zealand, Malaysia and Singapore in the pipeline. While travelling with work can be a challenge, one of the best things about Control Risks is that we are trusted by our clients to travel anywhere, to build trust with people from all over the world, and to be able to unravel complex challenges.

Control Risks more than anything trusts in our people to step up – I’ve had the privilege of working across sectors, service lines, geographies, and teams, in areas from marketing efforts, to bid creation, to project delivery, to people management and hiring. That means that I deliver incredible, valuable work, while also contributing to building a practice and a culture that values integrity, diligence, curiosity, and continual improvement.
