Tomoyuki is a Senior Analyst at Control Risks Japan, where he leads outbound investment risk assessment, country risk and geopolitical risk analysis, and crisis management enhancement projects for global Japanese companies. Tomoyuki is an expert in geopolitics, international relations, and military security issues, with both professional academic experiences and practical research skills in the Japanese government and provides insightful risk advisory services to Japanese companies. He also has an in-depth knowledge of US sanctions against Russia, Iran, Ukraine, Myanmar and so on.

Recent tasks that Tomoyuki has worked on include:

  • Analysis of geopolitical risks and its implications for mid-term business strategies for a leading technology company in Japan
  • Upgrading global business continuity plans for a major food company and a human resources company
  • Security assessment project focusing on the global supply chain of an European major pharmaceutical company
  • Country risk research, analysis, and advisory services for several Japanese companies, including major financial institutions

  • Prior to joining Control Risks, Tomoyuki worked as a specialist analyst in charge of weapons of mass destruction in the Intelligence and Analysis Service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan (MOFA) where he collected and analysed information related to international security including the latest situation and institutional and policy analysis. After retiring from the MOFA, Tomoyuki accumulated professional experiences and practical knowledge on institutional analysis and counter-terrorism analysis through multiple global projects in a Japanese consulting firm. He has also contributed to and commented on geopolitical risks and other issues in several Japanese media articles. He graduated magna cum laude with a BA from Ritsumeikan University and completed a MA with distinction in International Political Theory and Arms Control from Keio University.
