Jonathan is a Principal based in Washington, DC and leads on analysis of geopolitics and transnational threats. He works with multinational organizations in the technology, financial, insurance, agriculture, energy, pharmaceutical, manufacturing and industrial sectors.
Jonathan helps clients to see the wider risk context in which they operate, define their biggest challenges and think through solutions. With a focus on strategic business decisions, he advises on where the geopolitical environment is headed and the processes and tools to manage that risk. His team brings decades of practical experience navigating major shifts and connecting facts on the ground to underlying drivers and long-term trends.
Recent engagements include:
- Building and maintaining geopolitical scenarios for a major medical technology company, monitoring emerging risks to their core business and informing business development strategy in emerging markets.
- Creating a model to benchmark strikes, riots and civil commotion (SRCC) risks for a leading insurance company across their global footprint, identifying key trends, existing exposures, and potential opportunities.
- Briefing the board of a major energy services company on business risks in key markets and the strategic business implications of international conflicts and great power competition.
- Jonathan’s approach to risk was shaped by working with colleagues in Dubai during the Arab Spring. As governments faltered and collapsed, clients struggled to manage disruption and fallout. The experience reinforced the danger of complacency and highlighted the importance of staying open to new information and perspectives.
Prior to joining Control Risks, Jonathan consulted on multilateral development bank procurement policies and defence sector integrity issues. He also worked for leading US food security organisations. Jonathan holds degrees with honours from Harvard University and the London School of Economics (LSE).
