Tom Newell is an Associate Director covering Greater China and North Asia. Based in Hong Kong, he is responsible for consulting on crisis management, physical security, business continuity and complex problem-solving.
Tom began his career as an analyst in the Control Risks’ crisis response practice, tasked with providing analytical support to consultants deployed on active kidnap and extortion cases. He subsequently held security consulting roles in both London and Singapore, conducting a wide variety of risk management tasks on-the-ground in more than 20 countries across Europe, Africa and Asia.

Tom returned to Control Risks in 2023 after several years working in-house as a regional security manager for one of the largest US banks and a leading European insurance company. He holds an MSc in Security Studies from University College London along with certifications in corporate security management and maritime security. In addition to his native English, he speaks French and German.
