Nicola is a Principal in our Confidential Crisis Response department, leading the Business Operations team and forming part of the relationship management team for Hiscox crisis management policies. She oversees the Hiscox Hub, the centre of excellence for claims management supporting the insurance policies that fall under Hiscox's crisis management umbrella, including Kidnap and Ransom, Security Incident Response and Malicious Attack. She guides clients through their role in managing such crises, the decisions they will face, and the steps they can take in advance to strengthen their response, connecting them with the right prevention and mitigation experts across Control Risks where needed.

She also manages the Kidnap and Ransom insurance portfolio, working with policyholders, brokers and Hiscox across service delivery, strategy and product development. Clients value Nicola's depth of experience and ability to explain complex, high-stakes issues with clarity and appropriate gravitas, while building the rapport and trust these situations demand. Her clients do not fit a single mould, spanning industries and the globe.

Recent engagements include:

  • Supporting policyholders through the Middle East crisis of Spring 2026, ensuring the political evacuation support available under their insurance policies was integrated with the broader assistance Control Risks could provide.
  • Advised on Control Risks’ Behavioural Threat Management capabilities, the pivot in the threat landscape towards executives and how Control Risks can help assess and manage those risks.

Prior to joining Control Risks, Nicola worked as an analyst for the UK government. She spent her first ten years at Control Risks as an analyst focusing on kidnap and extortion trends across the Middle East and Asia. Clients particularly value her wide-ranging perspective on extortive crime. Nicola has a BA Joint Honours degree in French and German from the University of Kent and has lived in Germany and Switzerland.
