Matt Inness is a Consultant in Control Risks’ cyber security team, providing cyber incident response services to a broad range of clients within the EMEA region. 

Matt has led and supported over 200 incident response cases, providing tailored advice to help clients navigate cyber security crises and digital extortion events. Matt has first-hand experience responding to complex issues arising at the intersection of security, legal, and communications challenges. Joining Control Risks from a threat intelligence background, Matt has a robust understanding of the cyber threat landscape and geopolitical risk.

Recent tasks that Matt has worked on include:

  • Led, supported, or provided oversight on over 200 incidents across a range of threats, Client sectors and size, and complexities.
  • Acted as Crisis Manager for major ransomware incidents at legal, manufacturing, and professional services firms.
  • Provided advice across a broad range of digital extortion incidents, ranging from stolen source code to targeted defamation.
  • Has provided bespoke intelligence assessments across cyber threat intelligence, defence, and geopolitics to a broad range of commercial audiences.

  • Prior to joining Control Risks, Matt was lead cyber threat intelligence analyst at Sibylline, a geopolitical risk and threat intelligence firm, and was responsible for producing their threat intelligence product. Matt also has experience in financial services risk, having worked in PwC’s Business Risk and Controls division.

    Matt studied War Studies at King’s College London and also holds an MSc in Theory and History of International Relations from the London School of Economics.
