Lara is an Associate Director in Control Risks’ Business Intelligence practice, based in Washington, DC. She specialises in human intelligence gathering and investigative due diligence for hedge funds, institutional investors, development banks, law firms, and corporate clients.

 Recent projects that Lara has worked on include:

  • Conducting business investigations for investors in the mining and agricultural sectors in the US and Canada, addressing potential legal, regulatory and reputational risks associated with operations in federal and indigenous land, as well as local and environmental concerns.
  • Gathering human intelligence and conducting market analysis to support hedge fund investment in the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Collecting evidence for a US law firm in support of a class action lawsuit involving a telecom corporation in the Philippines.
  • Conducting political risk research for a Singaporean shipping company expanding into the US market.
  • Prior to joining Control Risks, Lara led a Hong Kong-based investigative firm’s human source intelligence practice in the Americas. Before that, she worked at a Washington D.C.-based security consulting firm.

    Lara holds a Bachelor of Arts from Southern Methodist University and a dual Master’s in International Studies from Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advance International Studies (SAIS) and Nanjing University in China. She is a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE).

    A native of Spain, Lara is fluent in Spanish, English and Mandarin Chinese, and has conducted investigative work across every major jurisdiction in North and South America.
