Doug is an Associate Director at Control Risks and a chartered security engineer (Principal grade) with the Register of Security Engineers and Specialists (RSES). He leads the UK and Europe security design team, with 15 years’ experience designing risk proportionate security solutions for clients, with experience in critical infrastructure, data centres, hotels and super prime residential.   

Recent tasks that Doug has worked on include:

  • Led a team for a new 100MW data centre campus, from concept production through to technical security design. The engagement included building operational security plans, producing tender documentation, pre-qualifying vendors, tender evaluation, construction support and witness acceptance testing.  
  • Developed a risk proportionate security strategy and standards framework for a global technology company, providing bespoke security solutions requiring extensive research development and testing, including forced entry and ballistic testing.   
  • Created security brand standards for a global 5-star hotel chain designed to be tiered to the local security environment and developed to be internationally recognisable.  
  • Assessed the security threats and risks to produce a detailed security design for a new country headquarters office in Africa. Security requirements included structural blast analysis, ballistic protection, Hostile Vehicle Mitigation and extensive electronic security systems.  

  • Prior to working for Control Risks, Doug worked for a multi-disciplinary engineering company. During this time, Doug developed security solutions for the London 2012 Olympics and for high-profile projects such as The Shard. Doug is passionate about working with clients and architects to deeply integrate security solutions into a buildings’ design,  ensuring security is never seen as a bolt or unsympathetic to the design.  

    Doug has a background in Building Control Surveying and a BSc in Building Surveying.
