Altura Giovannelli is a Director in Control Risks’ Compliance, Forensics & Intelligence department and is based in Houston. She supervises a diverse team of consultants and manages research-based investigative projects for multi-national corporations spanning all sectors, from the oil and gas industry to major media companies as well as financial institutions and pharmaceuticals.

She helps to safeguard clients’ reputations and brand identities by identifying unsuitable partners prior to investment or the formation of significant relationships. Altura has extensive project management experience, having managed some of Control Risks’ largest multi-subject and cross-border investigations. Altura has utilized her expertise in due diligence investigations to develop proven and efficient methodologies for regulatory and integrity screens.


Highlights of Altura’s recent experience include:
  • Project-managing a pre-acquisition investigation covering eight time zones, nine of Control Risks’ offices and 44 subjects for a leading international company which was in the process of acquiring a group of companies with an extensive global network of partners, affiliates, subsidiaries and sales agents. 
  • Project-managing a complex global compliance exercise for a large financial institution which requires understanding the in-and-outs of public record research capabilities within countries, on-the-ground contact with subjects and cultural sensitivity in order to obtain compliance. 
  • Developed methodology for and project-manages “executive exposure risk assessments,” which use open source to provide executives with wide-ranging overviews of their public profiles and online exposure.
  • Established programs with several major international companies to screen board candidates, those with access to confidential financial, technological or intellectual-property information, or those who will be recognized in the media as “public faces” of these corporations.


Altura received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Comparative Literature with a focus in French Translation and a minor in Business Administration from the University of Oregon.  She is fluent in French and holds a California private investigator license.
