Michael is the Senior Analyst for EMEA in the Special Risks Analysis (SRA) team, which tracks kidnapping-for-ransom and other extortive crime trends globally as part of Control Risks’ Confidential Crisis Response practice. Michael’s responsibilities include providing live support to response consultants deployed on active kidnapping-for-ransom, extortion and other acute crises, with a particular focus on the Europe, Middle East and Africa regions. Michael also regularly contributes analysis to Control Risks’ online platform CORE, as well as providing clients with bespoke analysis on kidnap-for-ransom and extortion trends across EMEA.

Recent tasks that Michael has worked on include:

  • Delivering an assessment of kidnap trends covering more than 100 countries for a large multinational client.
  • Producing an in-depth report on kidnap risks to humanitarian personnel across Sub-Saharan Africa for an NGO client.
  • Providing a detailed brief on maritime kidnapping-for-ransom in the Gulf of Guinea to commercial shipping and oil and gas clients operating in the region.
  • Prior to joining Control Risks, Michael worked as an intelligence analyst for a crisis response consultancy, delivering analysis on kidnap and extortion threats across EMEA. Michael holds an MSc in International Politics from Trinity College Dublin and a BA (Hons) in Politics and International Studies from the University of Warwick.
