Martin Tornberg is Head of Private Markets and Financial Sponsors.

Martin leads our strategy towards private markets investor clients with a focus on commercial, risk, and policy intelligence and analysis.

Recent tasks that Martin has led include:

  • Investigating minority shareholders in a take-private in Sweden, for a major European private equity firm.
  • Analysing political and regulatory risks in the financial services sector across Central Europe, for a major US private equity firm.
  • Leading pre-investment due diligence on an Italian healthcare software vendor for a top-three global private equity firm, and a landmark fossil-free energy opportunity in the UK for a North American pension fund.
  • Gathering and analysing intelligence on peers, and providing advice on best practice, with respect to cross-border data and technology security strategy for a globally operating European alternative asset manager.

Before joining Control Risks, Martin spent 25 years in investment banking/M&A and asset management across Europe and Asia. He held senior roles in capital markets, direct investment and portfolio management, supporting financial strategy and operations based at various times in London, Singapore, Manila and Hong Kong. Since 2023, he has served on the Nordic Council of the International Project Finance Association.

Martin holds dual master’s degrees from the Stockholm School of Economics and Hautes Études Commerciales (HEC) Paris and a FinTech Programme certificate from INSEAD.

He speaks Swedish, French and conversational Russian, learnt at the Swedish Armed Forces Language School.
