Mark is a Partner within our High-Risk Managed Services practice and is currently the Operations Director for our business in Iraq. He manages our offices in Basra, Baghdad, and Erbil, where he provides security, operational, and political risk management advice and services to our Iraq-based clients across various sectors, including energy, finance, development and diplomacy. 

Recent tasks that Mark has worked on include:

  • Embedded project security management for Control Risks’ commitments to international oil and gas majors in southern and central Iraq 
  • The design of a secure life support facility for a major infrastructure project in a remote part of East Africa, including all operational security procedures and emergency response plans 
  • Advisory for major international organisations, embassies, and humanitarian aid agencies on emergency response plans, evacuation procedures, and secure facility design
  • Design and delivery of a new and innovative secure journey management concept for an international organisation in East Africa 
  • Before joining Control Risks, Mark enjoyed a successful career in the British Army as a Senior non-commissioned officer in the Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment, serving in Northern Ireland, Kosovo, Iraq, and Afghanistan. After leaving the military, he transitioned into security and risk management and high-risk managed services, successfully leading several major oil and gas projects in Iraq before moving to Mozambique to lead operations and expand HRMS in a new market. 

    Mark holds an MSc in Organisational resilience from Buckinghamshire New University and is a member of the International Security Management Institute and a Certified Security Management Professional.
