Hugo is a senior partner in Control Risks’ Intelligence & Analysis (I&A) practice and leads the firm’s global Scaled Diligence Programmes (SDP) offering, a technology-enabled intelligence, compliance and governance business supporting multinational corporates, financial institutions and governments worldwide. His expertise sits at the intersection of compliance, intelligence, AI, technology and business transformation.
He draws on more than 25 years in intelligence, investigations, compliance and third-party risk management, much of it spent building and scaling businesses rather than simply operating within them.
Clients come to Hugo when they face increasing regulatory expectations, growing data volumes and operational complexity. Many have invested heavily in collecting risk information yet still struggle with consistency, efficiency and decision-making. Others need to modernise legacy due diligence and compliance programmes. He works with them to redesign how risk is assessed, governed and operationalised.
Recent engagements include:
- Leading the growth and expansion of Control Risks' SDP business, including launching a Madrid office and a Kuala Lumpur operation
- Facilitating engagement between an island government, regulatory stakeholders in Washington and a major correspondent banking partner, supporting the continued operation and stability of a strategically important national programme
- Leading the development of a new AI-native compliance and intelligence platform designed to bridge the gap between identifying risk and making decisions about it, helping organisations apply their own governance frameworks, risk appetite and operational requirements more consistently at scale
Hugo specialises in third-party risk, due diligence, financial crime compliance, sanctions, AI-enabled compliance, business intelligence and the design of scalable governance and operating models.
