Gordon leads the Data Analytics team for the Middle East. He has 8 years’ experience as a data scientist and fraud and compliance expert. He utilises his experience in data analytics, software engineering and business analysis to uncover fraud, risk and compliance issues in complex data. 

Gordon helps advise organisations and global law firms by providing technology-driven solutions and bespoke analysis of complex data systems to mitigate critical investigations, compliance and integrity risks.

Gordon’s recent engagements include:

  • Led a data analytics workstream to support a global media company in responding to a ransomware attack. Gordon developed an automated solution for the identification and reconciliation of Personally Identifiable Information (PII) within in large sets of both structured and unstructured data.
  • Engaged by a large African Bank to conduct an in-depth forensic analysis of its credit book, within its Mozambique operation, to identify suspected fraud exposure and establish modus operendi of suspected parties.
  • Performed a key role in a sanctions compliance investigation for a global bank, under the scrutiny of multiple regulators in various jurisdictions. Gordon led the data analytics workstream; including identifying a novel approach to screening which reduced manual workload resulting in significant savings for the client.
  • Assisted in the analysis and visualisations of both structured and unstructured data for a European financial service provider after alleged whistleblower reports of accounting malpractice. The analysed data consisted of payment information from various geographies, in multiple currencies and in desperate formats.
  • Used graph theory analysis for a consortium of insurance firms to identify suspicious patterns indicative of fraud and in some cases organised crime. Patterns and suspicions identified were based back to interested parties and in some cases onto law enforcement agencies for prosecution.

  • Prior to joining Control Risks, Gordon worked at a “Big 4” accountancy firm with a primary focus on Forensic Data Analytics. Gordon holds a B.Sc. in Computer Science and Informatics from the University of Johannesburg, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration from Henley Business School South Africa.
