Neal leads the Digital Risks Advisory practice for the Western Hemisphere, in addition to his global roles as lead Partner for Insider Risk Management Services and High Risk Digital Services. He ensures that senior executives have a better understanding of cyber risk and helps them to implement technology strategy; design and implement risk controls and guardrails for AI; improve digital resilience; and safeguard digital value against the risks of online business.
Neal has set up better governance for numerous clients, defining what should be measured and reporting to the C-suite and board in terms they can use to manage risk and understand priorities and budget trade-offs.
Recent engagements include:
- Developing an insider risk management program for a Fortune 10 company which uncovered several North Koreans working in their IT department
- Helping a European Global systemically important bank (GSIB) to establish and implement an insider risk management technology program, and improving their ability to prioritize and manage AI-driven vulnerabilities and remediation.
For the past 30 years Neal has been defeating threats, both as an incident responder and for 17 years as an intelligence officer in the US counterterrorism community. He has worked cybersecurity and risk at every level across government, industry and academia, including technical intelligence operations for CIA and technology development for DARPA; White House national policy; Fortune 10 consulting; and teaching cyber as a business risk at an Ivy League university. As Chief Information Security Officer for UBS, he was responsible for managing the global cybersecurity program for the world’s largest private bank.
Neal is Founder, Board Director and General Counsel of the Terrorism Research Center, Inc. NACD Directorship certified, he is an Attorney-at-Law and member of the Virginia State Bar. He is Adjunct Professor at Columbia and Georgetown Universities, and a Life Member of the Council on Foreign Relations. He holds a BSc in Mathematics from Oklahoma University, an MLitt in International Security from the University of St Andrews, Scotland, and a JD from Georgetown University.
