Maximilian is an Associate Consultant in Control Risks’ Business Intelligence practice, based in Madrid. He conducts pre-transaction and pre-relationship due diligence and is experienced in multijurisdictional corruption and fraud investigations, as well as reputational and integrity assessments. He specialises in due diligence investigations in Spain, the Benelux, and the UK, and leads on our business intelligence projects in the Netherlands.

Recent tasks that Maximilian has worked on include:

  • An in-depth pre-relationship analysis of high-profile corruption allegations on several individuals in Spain for an asset management firm, including providing an analysis of the potential reputational and legal implications for the client’s potential business partners.
  • Analysis of the Netherlands elements of a Colombian criminal network attempting to extort a client, as well as looking into allegations of serious criminality to provide a personal security risk assessment in the Netherlands for the same client.
  • On behalf of a major bank, investigated a high-profile Dutch art collector’s source of wealth across multiple jurisdictions, including source enquiries in the Netherlands.
  • A due diligence investigation into the track record, management, and connections of a major Spanish renewable energy fund manager and its key global subsidiaries.
  • An investigation in the Dutch Caribbean in support of a multi-jurisdictional due diligence project into a major bank’s prospective client, identifying and mapping allegations of organised criminality and bribery of politicians in the Dutch Caribbean and western Europe.

Maximilian is a native English and Spanish speaker and is fluent in Dutch and French. He has a Bachelor's degree in International Relations from the Department of War Studies at King's College London and a Certificate in the Law and Economics of M&A from the London School of Economics and Political Sciences (LSE).
