Kurt is a Senior Advisor at Control Risks, providing strategic guidance to the boards and executive leadership teams of major companies as they navigate critical situations.
Drawing on decades of law enforcement experience, including senior positions at the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Kurt guides boards and executive teams through high-stakes situations, strengthening strategic decision-making and operational resilience.
Recent examples of Kurt's work include :
- Following a major incident, providing senior advisory support and security program development to a Fortune 10 company to identify and resolve gaps in functionality and interoperability
- Designing and facilitating live tactical incident response drills at multiple high profile headquarters buildings to build capacity and increase communication and performance
- Delivering programmatic assessments of executive protection, crisis management, and physical security
- Assessment and coaching of senior executives in leadership, strategic direction, and change management
- Identification of knowledge base gaps in functional teams and provision of training and exercises to remediate them
Before joining Control Risks, Kurt served in several senior-level positions at the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). He held the roles of Special Agent in Charge of Counterintelligence for the Washington, DC Field Office, Deputy Assistant Director for Counterintelligence over Russia/Global, and Section Chief of the Surveillance and Aviation Section within the FBI’s Critical Incident Response Group.
Kurt's national security experience extends to international roles, including FBI Senior Representative to CDR SOCCENT in Qatar and Assistant Legal Attaché in Pakistan. Kurt’s tenure at the FBI also saw him leading efforts as Unit Chief of the Hostage Recovery Fusion Cell and tackling counterterrorism as a Supervisory Special Agent.
Prior to service with the FBI, Kurt worked as a practicing attorney at McCormick, Barstow, Sheppard, Wayte & Carruth LLP in Fresno, California and at Clifford & Brown in Bakersfield, California. He holds a juris doctorate with a focus on employment law from Willamette University College of Law.
