James is a Director in Control Risks’ Crisis and Resilience Consulting practice in London, where he leads a team specialising in supporting clients with crisis management and business continuity consultancy services. James has over a decade of crisis response experience in the government, non-governmental, and commercial sectors.

Recent tasks that James has worked on include:

  • Delivery of a strategic crisis management review and resilience strategy policy for a multinational transport, energy, and Critical National Infrastructure client.
  • Delivery of an annual exercise programme to the executive leadership and communications teams of a multinational pharmaceutical company.
  • Delivery of crisis management exercises to a global media and manufacturing company, based in the Nordics. This included delivery of a complex, two-day simulation exercise to the security and global crisis response teams and a tabletop exercise to the executive leadership team.
  • Development and implementation of a corporate crisis management plan and framework for a global insurance group, based in the UK – including an ongoing training and exercising programme.
  • Delivery of a resilience programme for a multinational cultural institution, based in Europe – including briefing and exercising of executive and operational leadership.
  • Development and delivery of a global training programme for a UK-based non-governmental organisation (NGO).

    James joined Control Risks from Amazon, where he managed supply chain assurance programmes across Europe. He also worked as a consultant for the UK Ministry of Defence, delivering technical training analysis to deployment headquarters. Prior to joining the commercial sector, James led a crisis response team during the COVID-19 pandemic and served eight years as an officer in the British Army with several international deployments as well as UK contingency operations in support of the police. 

    James holds a Masters degree in Middle East Studies; he is Certified with the Business Continuity Institute (CBCI), is Corporate Crisis Management Certified (CCMC) with the Management and Strategy Institute and is a Certified Member of the Institute for Strategic Risk Management.
