Hiroki is an Associate Director in Control Risks’ Business Intelligence practice, based in Dubai. He leads the Japan Desk, supporting Japanese corporations whose businesses operate in the Middle East and Africa region, providing them with intelligence and risk management consulting services.

Hiroki’s expertise is in business intelligence and complex problem-solving in the global business environment, mitigating global business risks such as geopolitical, anti-bribery and corruption, regulatory, cyber, ESG and supply chain, and more.

Recent tasks that Hiroki has worked on include:

  • Led the delivery of market entry intelligence to Japanese trade and investment companies seeking new business opportunities (in AI, data centres and energy transition) in the Middle East and Africa.
  • Developed a global anti-bribery and corruption policy and code of conduct for a Japanese company’s HQ and deployed it to its affiliated companies worldwide.
  • Provided a global risk and crisis management assessment and enhancement project for a global insurance company.
  • Undertook a large, multijurisdictional investigative due diligence programme for a multinational’s third-party agents before its acquisition.
  • Undertook a fraud investigation into Japanese companies.

Before joining Control Risks, Hiroki was Managing Director and Representative of Japan, Kroll International Inc., responsible for strengthening Kroll’s business development and its presence in Japan market.

Hiroki has also worked with the Dai-ichi Kangyo Bank and one of the Big 4 firms. He has worked in M&A and financial services for over 20 years, working on large global M&A deals covering Japan, China, South Korea, Singapore, the US, the UK, and Brazil.

Hiroki completed doctoral coursework without degree in International Business from Waseda University. He appears regularly in the media, including in Nikkei and Nikkei Business Journal.
