Beth Cartier is a Principal in Control Risks' Digital Risks practice, specializing in cybersecurity and emerging technology. A former Chief Information Officer, she has led security and compliance functions for multiple companies, focusing on healthcare and finance.  

Beth is an experienced incident responder and cyber crisis advisor, supporting clients through complex investigations and high impact events. She has designed enterprise cybersecurity frameworks, insider risk programs and AI adoption roadmaps. Her extensive knowledge includes audit and security certification requirements and processes. Beth also advises clients on geopolitical technology implications and is a hands-on builder of AI tools.

Recent tasks that Beth has worked on include:

  • Served as interim CISO for global asset management firm, focused on securing rapid AI rollout 
  • Analyzed the relative competitive advantage of global players in emerging technologies, including AI and quantum computing, for global investment firm
  • Assessed geopolitical and technical risk of global expansion for data center build sites, providing a prioritized security roadmap
  • Beth is an NSI Visiting Fellow and adjunct professor at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA). 

    She holds a Certified Information Systems Security Professional qualification (CISSP) and got her Masters in International Relations and Affairs at New York University.
