Arran is an analyst in our maritime intelligence and security practice. He advises shipping companies, insurers, marine services, government ministries, commodities traders and non-maritime organisations with exposure to maritime supply chains on geopolitical and security risks to commercial shipping globally. Arran contributes analysis to Control Risks’ subscription services and delivers bespoke consultancy projects, collaborating with the firm’s country experts worldwide.
Recent engagements include:
- Supporting ship owners, operators, charterers and war risk underwriters caught up in the 2026 Strait of Hormuz crisis, as well as non-maritime organisations impacted by it – ranging from airlines to telecoms firms.
- Assisting in the provision of Expert Witness reports for charterparty disputes regarding diversions from the Red Sea, Constructive Total Loss cases in Ukraine caused by Russia’s full-scale invasion, and refusal to load cargo in Ukraine under the Black Sea Grain Initiative and since.
- Serving as an Expert Witness in arbitration between charterers and a shipowner defending their decision to avoid the Red Sea.
- Investigating vessel movements for pre-transaction due diligence, asset tracing and compliance projects, working alongside our Intelligence and Investigations team.
Arran is a certified Company Security Officer (CSO) and Port Facility Security Officer (PFSO) under the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code. He has spoken at international conferences and provides expert commentary to news media, including BBC News, Channel News Asia, Al Jazeera and The Telegraph, as well as industry publications. Arran holds a Master’sdegree in Intelligence and International Security from King’s College London and a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Politics from the University of Leeds.
