John Adebiyi was a partner in the New York-headquartered law firm Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP from 2001 until his retirement from the firm in March 2024, with a broad practice focusing on public and private mergers and acquisitions, private equity, joint ventures and other corporate transactions across a wide range of industries and geographies. He also led Skadden’s UK foreign direct investment practice, advising clients on the regulatory regime introduced by the National Security and Investment Act 2021, with a particular emphasis on transactions in the defence and technology sectors.

John practised primarily in Skadden’s London office, although he relocated to Hong Kong from 2011 to 2016. In addition to his fee-earning work, he fulfilled several internal leadership roles, including as head of Skadden’s Hong Kong office from 2014 to 2016 and as a member of the firm’s Partner Selection and Client Engagement Committees.  

John graduated from St. Anne’s College, Oxford in 1989 with a BA in Jurisprudence and qualified as a solicitor with Freshfields in 1993, working in both London and New York. He spent a year at Credit Suisse Financial Products, focusing on capital markets and structured finance transactions, before joining Skadden as an associate in 1996. He has been admitted as a solicitor of England and Wales and Hong Kong. 

John is a Founding Member and serves as Chair of Impact X Capital LLP, a venture capital firm founded to support diverse entrepreneurs across the UK, Europe and the United States.
