Malte Liewerscheidt is a Director in Control Risks’ Global Risk Analysis team, leading work at the intersection of geopolitics, regulation and security across Europe and Africa. Based in Control Risks’ Frankfurt office, he delivers bespoke analysis and advisory support on political, regulatory, security and integrity issues to clients across sectors including energy, critical infrastructure, finance and technology.
Recent tasks that Malte has worked on include:
- Leading a multi‑site security threat register and risk assessment for a major European retailer’s headquarters and selected international offices
- Driving on‑call geopolitical and regulatory advisory for a global resources client, covering sanctions and export‑control exposure, political‑violence scenarios and stakeholder risks
- Providing rapid‑turn political and security updates on conflict dynamics in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC)
- Leading concept development for “sensitive roles” controls at a German critical‑infrastructure operator, supporting insider‑risk mitigation and HR governance
- Providing a country risk assessment for a US retailer in Ghana, covering political, regulatory, ESG and security considerations to support nature‑restoration projects and decision‑making
- Overseeing executive briefings and workshops for a European pharmaceutical stakeholder on political‑risk scenarios, regulatory headwinds and resilience planning
Before joining Control Risks, Malte spent over 15 years in Europe and Africa. He served as Vice President at Teneo in London and as a Senior Analyst in the Africa team at Verisk Maplecroft, developing analysis on political, regulatory, security and integrity risks for European corporates and financial institutions at the nexus of EU policy, trade and compliance. He most recently lived and worked in the Democratic Republic of the Congo as Country Representative of the Hanns Seidel Foundation.
In his current role, Malte delivers workshops, risk assessments and board briefings that bring together EU regulatory developments with fast‑moving geopolitical trends to produce practical decision support for senior leaders.
