Hans is a Director in Control Risks’ Asia Pacific practice, based in Melbourne, Australia. He leads the Australia and New Zealand Discovery and Data Insights practice, focusing on large and complex matters involving investigations and technology in the region.  

Hans specialises in helping clients with business email compromise, white-collar crime, regulatory response, employee misconduct, data breach investigations, and litigation.  

Recent tasks that Hans has worked on include:

  • Advising external counsel and clients on the identification, collection, processing, review, analysis, production, and overall management of large volumes of unstructured and structured data during discovery requests, regulatory inquiries, investigations, and litigation.  
  • Participated in a cross-border investigation involving 25TB of data acquired from various data sources across 43 custodians, working with law firms and producing documents for regulatory authorities.
  • Led and carried out a Business Email Compromise investigation after a client’s corporate email account was compromised using sophisticated phishing methods and leveraged by threat actors to perform fraudulent wire transfers.  
  • Performed digital forensic work to support a client’s internal investigation, which resulted in discovering evidence of fraudulent activity, data exfiltration, employee misconduct and intellectual property theft.  
  • Carried out a data breach investigation where external threat actors used malicious software to prevent access to and exfiltrate corporate data from a client’s computer network. 

    • Before joining Control Risks, Hans spent six years at a large global consulting firm in its forensic technology team, conducting digital forensics and incident response investigations and eDiscovery work. Before that, he spent 10 years with an international steel distributor where he was part of the global IT team and responsible for global IT infrastructure and infrastructure security.  

    Hans has a bachelor’s degree in business information systems, cyber forensics, information security and management. Hans is also a GIAC Certified Forensic Examiner, GIAC Certified Forensic Analyst, Cellebrite CCPA & CCO, Nuix Data Discovery Master, Reveal Genius and Relativity Master certified.
