Andrew Gilholm is a Principal and Director of the analysis practice for Greater China and North Asia, overseeing coverage of political, regulatory and security issues across the region. Andrew has worked in the political risk industry focusing on China and Korea for 17 years, mainly based in the region since 2001.

Before joining Control Risks, Andrew worked as an Asia-Pacific analyst at the political and economic consultancy Oxford Analytica, a communication specialist at Microsoft China, and East Asia analyst at a firm advising insurance sector clients on political risk. He has worked in China for most of the period since 2001 and served in postings in Control Risks’ London, Singapore and Seoul offices.
Andrew’s comments, analysis or op-eds have appeared in media and journals including the China Economic Quarterly, Journal of Contemporary Chinese Affairs, Financial Times, Wall Street Journal, The Economist and Time Magazine, and in broadcasts by the BBC, Bloomberg and CNBC. He has a master’s degree with distinction in East Asian politics and international relations, and a bachelor’s degree in political science.
