Adam Chapman is an Associate Director and leads Control Risk’s Crisis and Security Consulting practice for East Africa. He is based in our Nairobi office, travels widely across the region and is Control Risk’s focal point for delivery across our physical security services, including security and risk assessments, security design engineering, embedded consultants, and journey management. Adam works with a broad range of clients in various sectors including agriculture, mining, oil and gas and energy, assisting them with their security, risk and training requirements. 

Recent tasks that Adam has worked on include:

  • Delivering a security audit and provided a gap analysis to a client in Ethiopia and the DRC, managing complex regulatory requirements regarding the arming of security personnel. Then advising them on the most appropriate course of action to take against an ever-evolving threats and risks. 
  • Conducted a full review of a client's emergency planning, business continuity and crisis management functions in Ethiopia. Provided advice on improvement of policies and conducted crisis management training to the senior leadership team. 
  • Planning, developing, and implementing a full security programme for a major extractives client in Northern Mozambique. This project operates in a hostile environment with additional demands on logistics and effective interaction with the local community and workforce.
  • Integration of new software system and processes to aid a client in managing and tracking their vehicle fleet in Zambia, thus allowing them to respond security incidents more quickly and to then make use of the related data to drive over efficiencies in their business.
  • Carrying out a full security review of a mine site in Tanzania with a focus human rights and the use of force in complex operating environments. Provided a full range of recommendations to be implemented to improve the client’s approach and reduce their exposure to risk.
  • Adam has worked across Africa and the Middle East in the risk management industry in commercial and operational roles. He has lived in Africa for several years. Before entering the private sector, Adam was an officer in the British army, working in the infantry and surveillance and mentoring roles in Central America, Africa, Southern Asia and the Middle East. Adam holds an MBA from Durham Business School, a degree in Social Policy from the University of Manchester and a certificate in Terrorism studies from the University of St Andrews.
