The Russia-Ukraine conflict has resulted in business-critical disruption and uncertainty for both countries that will significantly outlast the end of the military engagement, the conclusion of which is difficult to forecast. Companies should anticipate a significant expansion of Western sanctions against Russia that will increase regulatory and reputational risks. They should also expect equally damaging and unconventional countermeasures from Russia.

These dynamics threaten companies that do business in or with Russia and Ukraine across sectors and activities. They will have a real effect on employees living and working in both countries, and will serve as a lightning rod for public, activist, and political attention.

More broadly, the crisis poses major changes to the world order and international institutions, with geopolitics increasingly shaping trade and investment opportunities.
