Zoe Phillips is a Director in Control Risks’ VANTAGE practice, focusing on third-party risk management and compliance solutions in the Asia Pacific. Based in Australia, Zoe has over a decade of investigative experience, including conducting numerous complex multijurisdictional projects across Latin America and the US. Zoe specialises in due diligence, business intelligence, investigations, social risk, as well as advisory on ABAC and AML compliance programmes.
Recent tasks that Zoe has worked on include:
Managed a multijurisdictional internal investigation for an international medical services company regarding allegations of fraud, code of ethics violations and conflicts of interest. This included forensic analysis, due diligence, compliance policy review, as well as providing recommendations on strengthening the company’s third-party risk management and wider compliance programme.
Intelligence gathering and stakeholder mapping for an infrastructure project in Mexico and Central America to support an investor concerned about possible ESG risks, particularly relating to community engagement at the local level. The project included political risk analysis, identifying and profiling relevant stakeholders, determining potential reputational concerns, and identifying future potential community engagement strategies.
Strategic business intelligence as part of extensive pre-acquisitional support in the Mexican energy sector, focusing particularly on identifying possible issues relating to corruption, social risk and political influence of potential project partners.
Managed various internal investigations into allegations of sexual harassment following anonymous whistle-blower reports. This included conducting interviews in highly sensitive settings, forensic review of company devices, code of conduct review, and providing recommendations to C-suite stakeholders.
Prior to her current role, Zoe led the Compliance, Forensics and Intelligence team at Control Risks’ Mexico City office, covering Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean. Zoe has a Master of Arts (Politics) from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and a Bachelor of Arts with honours in politics and Spanish from the University of Melbourne. Zoe speaks fluent Spanish.
