Shoaib Ahmed is an Associate Director based in Mumbai, and leads complex investigations and problem-solving engagements for Control Risks’ South Asia practice. He helps clients make critical decisions during crises, frauds and disputes.

Shoaib specialises in OSINT and HUMINT and leads intelligence gathering for investigations emanating out of India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh and Maldives. He has more than 14 years of experience: as an investigative journalist covering crime, terrorism and politics at two leading Indian television news channels – CNN IBN and Times Now; as a corporate fraud investigator at Deloitte; and, as a law enforcement outreach lead at Facebook – focusing on its outreach with Indian government’s Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-IN) and cyber-crime investigation units across India.


Recent assignments that Shoaib has led include: 
  • A highly sensitive investigative and crisis advisory mandate for one of the world’s largest technology companies.
  • A large-scale corruption investigation for one of the world’s biggest shipping and container terminal conglomerates.
  • An internal fraud investigation for one of the world’s biggest multinationals involved in the production, processing and packaging of agricultural products.
  • An investigative pre-investment due diligence in India and the UK, for one of the world’s largest pension funds that was looking to acquire a major stake in a renewable energy company in South Asia.
  • Several whistle-blower investigations, for clients across sectors, relating to issues such as employee misconduct, conflict of interest, insider-threat and vendor collusion.

 

Shoaib holds a diploma in cyber law from Asian School of Cyber Laws, and a Terrorism Analyst Training certification from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. As a journalist, he also underwent training on conducting investigations by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), India’s federal investigative agency.
