Michael is a Partner based in Shanghai. He leads solution development for Belt and Road Initiative client projects and other Chinese and Korean client overseas investment. He is a broadly experienced risk management professional with particular expertise in protecting infrastructure investment across the project life cycle. He has supported clients in the energy, construction, financial and technology sectors with market entry studies, security risk assessments and management, and crisis management. 


Recent examples of Michael’s work include:
  • Advising an Asian bank on risk management for financing a number of infrastructure projects in a Middle Eastern country.
  • Helping a client with optimisation for a multi-country energy pipeline route in Africa.
  • Conducting stakeholder analysis and management for a construction company operating in Africa.
  • Designing security master plans for a major infrastructure project in a South East Asian country.


Prior to working in China, Michael was Managing Director of Control Risks’ Australia Pacific business where he supported resource sector clients operating overseas. Earlier in his career, Michael was an officer in the Australian Army with career highlights including command of an infantry battalion and secondment to the United Nations in the Middle East. He has lived and worked in Australia, Malaysia, India, the Middle East and now China. 

Michael is a graduate of the Royal Military College of Australia. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of New South Wales, a Master of Science from Madras University and a Master of Business Administration from Southern Cross University. He is currently studying Chinese.
