Michael Cullen is a Senior Partner, responsible for the management of the company’s Bogotá operations and the development, management and delivery of projects for global and local clients operating in the region. Additionally, Michael is responsible for Control Risks’ Global Services department for South America.

Michael Cullen is a Senior Partner, responsible for the management of the company’s Bogotá operations and the development, management and delivery of projects for global and local clients operating in the region. Additionally, Michael is responsible for Control Risks’ Global Services department for South America.

Michael was responsible for the delivery of Control Risks’ corruption and investigative-related services in Australia and Asia. Michael has worked in the European, Africa and Middle East fraud investigations area, formed and then headed the Global Services team for New York and Eastern Canada, and acted as the Global Managing Director for Control Risks’ Legal Technologies business.


Examples of Michael’s work include:
  • Acting as a strategic advisor to a major oil and gas company trying to understand pre-entry risks associated with one of the world’s most hostile environments.
  • Advising a Canadian agency evacuating two employees from a hotel in India under terrorist attack. As a trained Control Risks Response hand-holder, Michael worked with a major pharmaceutical company which had suffered malicious product contamination in Asia, working with senior management on crisis management, product recall protocols and eventual product reintroduction.


Prior to joining Control Risks, Michael worked as a litigation attorney. Michael attained a Master of Laws, Bachelor of Laws, and Bachelor of Economics through the University of Sydney.

Michael completed a Master of Arts degree in International Relations at Cambridge University. He holds Diplomas in Government (Fraud Investigations & Fraud Prevention) and a Certificate IV qualification in Risk Management. Michael attended the Leadership in Crises program at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government. He is a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) and a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS). Michael is a regular conference presenter and media commentator on political, security and integrity risks.
