Matt is a senior consultant in Control Risks’ crisis and security consulting practice in Sydney. With over 14 years of experience in security related fields, he specialises in security and risk management, and helps clients develop, implement and execute crisis management arrangements. Matt delivers risk management consulting and advice  to clients in a range of sectors, working with them to identify their needs and specific risks and developing strategies to support resilient and secure organisations.

Matt is a senior consultant in Control Risks’ crisis and security consulting practice in Sydney. With over 14 years of experience in security related fields, he specialises in security and risk management, and helps clients develop, implement and execute crisis management arrangements.

Matt delivers risk management consulting and advice  to clients in a range of sectors, working with them to identify their needs and specific risks and developing strategies to support resilient and secure organisations. Matt leads the delivery of projects and works with clients primarily in Australia, New Zealand and South-East Asia. 


Recent project examples include:

  • Developing and implementing a corporate-level crisis management plan and framework for a large retail organisation, including delivering crisis management training for the executive crisis management team.
  • Reviewing pandemic crisis response arrangements for a large multinational bank to identify tactical response enhancements and to create a strategic roadmap to support future recovery and resilience.
  • Working with horticulture industries and bodies to implement and embed crisis management capabilities to enhance industry resilience, as well as providing crisis management and media training for their teams.
  • Undertaking a nationwide security review for a client in the energy sector, reviewing over 30 facilities, which culminated in the development of a physical security minimum standard and crisis management training.
  • Conducting security risk assessments for a retail banking organisation, ensuring the physical security design and operational security procedures provided adequate protection to staff, customers and assets.
  • Coordinating physical penetration tests for a financial institution’s data centres, followed by a threat and risk assessment and retained consulting support throughout the entire security treatment implementation phase.

 

Before joining Control Risks, Matt worked at American Express in a security management role, managing and coordinating security operations across its Australian and New Zealand offices, data centres and high-security facilities. He also supported crisis management and executive protection capabilities throughout Australia and worked closely with its security teams in Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea and Japan. 

Prior to this, he was a member of the Australian Army, serving in a reserve infantry unit. Matt is currently undertaking Thai language studies at the Australian National University and is completing a bachelor degree in security studies at Macquarie University, which focuses on regional security, strategic studies, foreign policy, disaster management, national resilience and counterterrorism.
