Mark Womble is a Principal in Control Risks’ Crisis and Security Consulting department, based in Los Angeles, CA with 20+ years’ experience across threat intelligence analysis, risk management, and corporate operations.

He currently specializes in providing corporate risk advisory services and helping organisations strengthen their crisis and security risk management programs across a variety of industries.


His experience includes:
  • Serving as a trusted advisor and sounding board for client executive leadership teams across crisis, security and risk management concerns.
  • Providing advisory services across the full scope of threat intelligence, risk management, duty-of-care, travel, and event security to help a global client enhance its security program and develop processes for measuring and assessing the effectiveness and efficiency of current operations.
  • Advising a Fortune 500 client on thoroughly investigating, assessing and navigating potential exposure to significant reputational harm on the heels of an internal security challenge.
  • Building intelligence frameworks to collect information, assess disparate data points, and produce fused threat intelligence assessments to mitigate potential risks to corporate operations, reputation, and/or personnel.

Prior to joining Control Risks, Mark has worked on executive level assignments in Europe, Asia and the United States—both within the United States Government Intelligence Community and the broader private sector—including serving as Chief of Staff to the Chairman of BAE Systems, plc; Asia Regional Director for a multinational defence and security firm; and as the Director of Counterterrorism Analysis where he oversaw over 500 analysts. Mark has lived and worked in both the UK and Asia on multiple occasions, including time as a Foreign Service Officer in Hong Kong earlier in his career.

Mark holds an MPhil in Criminological Research from the University of Cambridge; a BA in Sociology and Religious Studies from the University of Virginia; and has completed Executive Education programs at Harvard Business School, Stanford Business School, Oxford University’s Said Business School, and the University of London’s London Business School. Mark currently holds both a Governance, Risk Management, and Compliance Professional (GRCP) certification and a Governance, Risk Management, and Compliance Audit (GRCA) certification.
