An Indonesian national, Lina is primarily responsible for the most complex consulting and advisory work for multinationals across sectors in Indonesia and Malaysia.

Lina Gautama is based in Control Risks’ Singapore office and is a South-East Asia expert, focusing on Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand. She provides analysis on political, security, integrity and regulatory climate in South-East Asia. An Indonesian national, Lina is primarily responsible for the most complex consulting and advisory work for multinationals across sectors in Indonesia and Malaysia. 


Recent and ongoing projects include:
  • Ongoing monitoring and analysis of political and regulatory developments for Indonesia’s 2018 regional and 2019 national elections; Malaysia’s May 2018 elections and government transition; and tentative Thailand elections.
  • Security risks monitoring for South-East Asia (including the 2017 Marawi siege in the Philippines), focusing on Indonesia’s nationwide terrorism and social unrest risks; Malaysia’s racial tensions and crime; and Thailand’s southernmost insurgency and political violence. 
  • Completed two separate in-depth political, regulatory, security and stakeholder assessments in resource-rich, politically challenging in Aceh and Papua provinces (Indonesia) for two oil and gas multinationals.  
  • Handled highly complex and sensitive investigations for numerous mining, oil and gas and automotive multinationals facing extortion and/or regulatory harassment from politically connected individuals and provided solutions, including guiding two that opted market exit. 
  • Delivered anti-bribery and anti-corruption assessments for a Japanese multinational operating in Indonesia (including conducting interviews with internal and external stakeholders in Bahasa Indonesia) and guided the company in eliminating past illicit payments to government officials.  
  • Deliver weekly monitoring reports on political, security, integrity, operational and regulatory developments of Indonesia’s mining sector for the past five years for a Brazilian multinational.
  • Conducted pre-transaction due diligence on companies and individuals. 


Prior to joining Control Risks, Lina worked with Keppel and ConocoPhillips. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business from Singapore Management University. Lina is fluent in Bahasa Indonesia, Bahasa Melayu and Mandarin, speaks some French, Spanish and Thai.
