 Jonathan (Jonny) Gray is a Senior Partner at Control Risks whose primary role is as Global Head of Sport and Major Events. Over 15 years with the company, Jonny has worked with organising committees, sponsors, broadcasters, insurers, leagues and associations to deliver world-class integrity, resilience and security solutions in the sports sector. Jonny is also the Control Risks representative to the International Security Management Association (ISMA).

Jonathan (Jonny) Gray is a Senior Partner at Control Risks whose primary role is as Global Head of Sport and Major Events. Over 15 years with the company, Jonny has worked with organising committees, sponsors, broadcasters, insurers, leagues and associations to deliver world-class integrity, resilience and security solutions in the sports sector. Jonny is also the Control Risks representative to the International Security Management Association (ISMA).


Examples of Jonny’s work include:
  • Led and delivered security master planning support over four years to the Olympic Delivery Authority for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London. 
  • Designed and delivered large-scale security projects for the sponsors and broadcasters of major sporting events, as well as for major controversial construction projects, VVIP gatherings, operations in acute/high-threat environments and other elevated risk situations. 
  • Working with investigative and forensics colleagues, coordinated the delivery of numerous highly sensitive investigations in the sports sector. 

 

Prior to his current role, Jonny held several senior roles in Control Risks across EMEA and the Americas. Before joining Control Risks, Jonny served in the British Army reaching the rank of Colonel. He was commended by HM The Queen for commanding his regiment on operations following the Holy Cross School crisis in Belfast and in the Iraq War. He also served in the Balkans, the Falkland Islands and throughout NATO. He was seconded to the British Ministry of Defence, Whitehall for three tours working on strategic matters.

Jonny has a Master’s degree in the Philosophy of International Relations from St John’s College, Cambridge. He is also a graduate of the British Army Staff college and won the “Sword of Honour” graduating as top student from The Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst.
