Hua Zhen is based in Control Risks’ Singapore office and provides research and analysis on bespoke political, security and regulatory projects in South-East Asia and Australasia, covering Malaysia, Myanmar, Laos, Australia and New Zealand. 

Recent tasks that Hua Zhen has worked on include:

  • Pre-market political, regulatory, operational and security risk assessments as well as stakeholder mapping for foreign companies considering investments in various states across Malaysia (including companies in the mining, healthcare, hardware technology and data centre sectors).
  • Long-term strategic intelligence and crisis management support for foreign companies in Myanmar since the February 2021 coup (including companies in the oil and gas, technology and consumer goods sectors).
  • An in-depth political risk analysis and stakeholder mapping exercise for various large infrastructure projects in Laos.
  • Security assessments for assets across Australia, including on civil unrest, terrorism and crime risks, for companies in the agriculture, extractives, and technology sectors.
  • Prior to joining Control Risks, Hua Zhen worked as a senior research analyst at the Ministry of Defence of Singapore. Hua Zhen studied journalism and public policy at Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University. She has native proficiency in English and Mandarin.
