Howard Wang is a Principal of the Compliance, Forensics & Intelligence team in the Shanghai office. As a qualified forensic accountant, Howard has participated in more than 100 financial statement fraud investigations, FCPA due diligence and assessments, contract and procurement fraud investigations, litigation support and tax fraud investigations in China and Australasia.

Howard Wang is a Principal of the Compliance, Forensics & Intelligence team in the Shanghai office. As a qualified forensic accountant, Howard has participated in more than 100 financial statement fraud investigations, FCPA due diligence and assessments, contract and procurement fraud investigations, litigation support and tax fraud investigations in China and Australasia.


Howard’s recent engagements include:
  • Assisted a leading pharmaceutical and consumer healthcare company with a large project focusing on internal investigation of breaches of code of conduct by top management, forming corporate defence strategies, and responding to enquiries from various government departments.
  • Independent financial statement investigation into a Chinese pharmaceutical company listed in the US.
  • Investigation of the procurement functions for a US company’s China-based factory.
  • FCPA due diligence on a distributor of biotech equipment in Beijing for a Fortune 500 company. 
  • Assisted Asian Development Bank with an independent review into the bidding process for a highway project in China that it co-funded with the Chinese government. 


Prior to joining Control Risks, Howard worked for EY’s fraud investigations and dispute services in China as a senior accountant. He worked as field-in-charge on a number of projects, serving clients in the pharmaceutical, IT, manufacturing and communications industries.

Howard lived and worked in New Zealand for nine years, including three years as an investigator with the Inland Revenue Department, where he led a number of tax evasion and avoidance investigations for clients ranging from high-net-worth individuals to large corporations. He also worked for a listed logistics company’s finance team.

Howard graduated from the University of Auckland with a graduate diploma in commerce and a bachelor’s degree in accounting and information management. He is a qualified Chartered Accountant with the Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand and a Certified Fraud Examiner. He speaks fluent English and Mandarin Chinese.
