Daniel Smith is a Director in Control Risks’ Legal Technologies practice based in London. He has over 20 years of experience in the eDiscovery and Digital Forensics industry. After graduating in Law, Daniel spent 10 years working in the field of Computer Forensics before moving across to eDiscovery. With first-hand experience of working in all stages of the Electronic Discovery Reference Model (EDRM), Daniel applies his expertise to consult with clients, finding solutions and developing workflows for complex tasks and project requirements.

He is frequently involved in matters ranging from eDiscovery litigation support, Investigations, Cyber breach response and Data Subject Access Requests (DSARs).

Daniel’s recent work includes:

  • Developing bespoke workflows for the identification of PII and data subjects in Cyber breach matters.
  • Applying analytics and AI to prioritise document review in a complex bribery and corruption investigation.
  • Building entity models to allow for the identification of entities impacted by Russian sanctions.
  • Developing Control Risks’ technology platform capabilities and service offerings.

  • Prior to joining Control Risks, Daniel worked for an influential London law firm specialising in white collar crime.

    Daniel is a Certified Relativity Expert, Brainspace Analyst, Reveal Processing specialist, Encase Certified Examiner (EnCE) and has an LLB (Hons) degree in Law.
