Dan Cahill is Director of Product Risks at Control Risks. Recognised by the industry as an expert and leader in his field, Dan has a long record of building solid industry relationships based on trust, business acumen and delivering positive results in a fast paced and time sensitive environment. He specialises in using creative problem solving and measured risk-taking to drive improvements to the bottom line while maintaining customer satisfaction.
Most recently, Dan worked as General Manager for the Americas with WorldAware (formally red24). During this time, he worked with many of the top insurance companies in the product recall consulting area such as Hiscox, Pembroke, Crum and Forster, Allianz, CV Starr, Swiss Re, and AWAC. In his role of General Manager, Dan was not only responsible for the Americas region, but also managed a highly successful, cross-disciplinary team that provided risk mitigation services and were involved in over 500 crisis responses during his tenure.
Dan spent sixteen years with RQA, Inc. managing a strategic crisis management and recall team. Dan began working in crisis management in 2002 with RQA and relocated to London to consult with the product recall underwriters of AIG international, the first company to offer product recall insurance. During his time in London, Dan worked with AIG to review their approach to underwriting for the food and beverage as well as consumer goods industry. A focus on preparedness, quality, supplier management and product safety all contributed to improve AIG’s loss ratio and mitigated loss for their insured. Upon his return to the US, Dan and his US team were exclusively retained by Catlin (formerly a leading UK Lloyds recall syndicate member). He worked with the underwriters at Catlin for almost a decade, offering loss control consulting and new product development as well as 24/7 crisis response.
Throughout his extensive span of time in managing crisis consulting, Dan has experienced and successfully managed incidents ranging from the melamine pet food recalls to the recent romaine lettuce recalls and other incidents involving malicious product tampering, biological, chemical, foreign material and other product hazards and regulatory violations.
